*RESPONSIBILITIES*This position comprises responsibilities in two major work areas: 1) bibliographic control for traditional and non-traditional materials on the Arts and Science Cataloging Team, and 2) complex serials cataloging and problem resolution for the Library's Collection Space Management project. Both of these responsibilities reflects and implements the mission of the Catalog Department and the Yale University Library.

The Catalog Librarian works under the general direction of the Arts and Sciences Cataloging Team Leader and performs original cataloging for a wide range of print and non-print materials in areas of responsibility currently assigned to the Arts and Sciences Team. Descriptive cataloging is performed in accordance with national standards and the Yale practices on these types of materials. Subject analysis and classification assignment follows Library of Congress standards and local practice. Authority records follows NACO standards and are contributed to the national authority file. In addition to cataloging traditional library materials and in support of the Catalog Department's endeavor to integrate bibliographic control for digital resources, the candidate participates in activities to implements structural and content metadata standards beyond the MARC standard and to contribute to the development of new metadata services for the Library's growing digital resources.
