Dr. Kujundzic is Professor of Folk Literature at the University of Tuzla and served as Director of the National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina from 1992 until September 30, 2005. His service as Library Director began during the siege of Sarajevo when the National library was shelled and over 2 million books, journals and archival documents were burned over the course of two days, August 25 and 26, 1992. During his tenure Dr. Kujundzic devoted himself to restoring the library's infrastructure and its holdings. Dr. Kujundzic received his Master of Arts in Humanities from the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilization from the University of Chicago in 1973, and his Doctorate of Librarianship from the University of Sarajevo in 1989. Dr. Kujundzic is the author of several books in the fields of librarianship and the cultural history of Bosnia, including Bosnian Memory: References for Research and Study, Sarajevo: International Peace Center, 2003. Dr. Kujundzic’s current areas of specialization and research are in Islamic studies, librarianship, and the cultural history of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
