The Dr. Spencer G. Shaw Scholarship Announced

New Scholarship Launched--released by BCALA-Connecticut Chapter Dr. Spencer G. Shaw Scholarship Committee.

The BCALA-Connecticut Affiliate would like to announce a scholarship in honor of Dr. Spencer G. Shaw. Dr. Shaw is a retired public librarian, educator and world renowned expert on storytelling and library services to children. He was also the first African American librarian to be hired at the Hartford Public Library in 1941. The Dr. Spencer G. Shaw scholarship will be available to a Connecticut resident and African-American student accepted in an MLS degree program from an ALA accredited Master’s Program in Library and Information Studies. The $500 award will be given for the first time this Spring at the Connecticut Library Association annual 2008 conference. The Deadline for submissions is March 30, 2008.
